- Employees: 0
- Investors: 0
- Debt: 0
- Revenue streams: growing
- Products: too many to count
This isn't a humble brag. This is a strategy.
Why I chose bootstrap
The startup world worships fundraising. Seed rounds. Series A. Valuations.
I respect it. But it's not for me.
Here's why: money from others comes with strings. Investors want returns. Partners want input. Employees want stability. Every person you add to the equation adds a constraint.
I wanted freedom. The freedom to build what I want, when I want, how I want.
So I chose the hardest, slowest, most rewarding path: build it alone.
The ecosystem approach
Most creators think linear. One product. One audience. One revenue stream.
I think in ecosystems:
- Humanity Record — the music label
- Vox Method — the vocal coaching school
- Vox Studio — the online recording studio
- Humanity Books — the publishing arm
- Human Being — the personal brand
Each brand feeds the others. A student from Vox Method discovers my music. A reader of my books joins the newsletter. A listener of the podcast enrolls in coaching.
It's not one funnel. It's a web. And webs are hard to break.
The $0 marketing stack
Here's what I spend on marketing: nothing.
- YouTube for long-form content
- Short-form for discovery
- Email list for retention
- SEO for passive traffic
- The products themselves as marketing
Every piece of content I create is a permanent asset. A YouTube video from 2024 still brings students in 2026. A blog post ranks for years. An email sequence runs on autopilot.
The compounding effect
The magic of bootstrapping isn't day one. It's year three.
Year one is painful. You're building and nobody cares.
Year two, things start connecting. One thing leads to another.
Year three, the compound effect kicks in. Revenue grows. Audience grows. And you still own 100% of everything.
That's the game I'm playing.
If you're building something from nothing, know this: the speed of the first year doesn't predict the speed of year three. Keep going.
